All About Healing Modalities
There are many different healing modalities to explore along your healing path. Spend time researching different modalities and facilitators to find your best fit!
Below are several popular alternative healing modalities (also referred to as complementary therapies) you may or may not be aware of- use this as a general starting point to guide further research. And remember that due diligence is important with all healing modalities, not all modalities are the same, not all are suitable for each healing path and not all facilitators are trained correctly or have your best interest at heart. Love yourself enough to research properly before allowing anyone access to your body, mind or spirit.

Breathwork
There are many types of breathwork that can aide your healing journey. Some breathwork practices are designed to brings calm and peace, regulating your nervous system. Some are designed specifically for emotional and somatic release and others, like holotropic breathwork, can be used to induce altered states of consciousness. A regular breathwork practice can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression and ptsd, lower cortisol, lower blood pressure and heart rate and assist with processing grief and chronic stress states.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a mental health treatment that is known to be very effective at processing stuck trauma. It can also be very helpful in the area of addictive behaviours, which are also most often rooted in trauma. Emdr relies on bilateral stimulation (side to side eye movements, hand tapping or audio tones) while the trauma is reprocessed from a non flight or fight baseline, quite often creating a permanently reduced trauma response to the stimuli.
Energy Healing
Energy healing can come in many forms but is centred around an energy workers ability (and your willingness) to connect to your field and locate and remove blockages, stuck energy, trauma, repressed emotions and incorrect core beliefs.
Fasting
Fasting as a spiritual discipline can assist by lowering the stimuli to the mind and body, allowing for rest, regeneration, healing and focus. Lowering the bodies need for digestion, can not only create ease and rest in that area of the body, but repurpose the reserved energy into focused intent, meditation and prayer. It improves self control, spiritual sensitivity, humbles the self and clarifies focus. Please do your research on types of fasting and risks associated and consult your medical professional before undertaking any fasting protocols.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool in any healing journey as it can help to rewire patterns and subconscious programming instantly. There are many types of hypnotherapies, from the more conventional offerings that help with addictions and behaviours to the more spiritual based modalities like QHHT and BQH which offer past life and between life hypnosis opportunities.
Meditation
There are many types and therefore purposes to meditation. But ultimately it is about connecting to self, becoming the observer and finding your inner light. Meditation can help with mindfulness, focus, calm, stress, memory, emotional balance and healing.
Muscle Testing
Muscle testing can help identify imbalances and blockages in your system. The body always keeps the score, so muscle testing can be a great way to find out where you are blocked and what you are being blocked by. Depending on the type of muscle testing offered and the training, experience and skill of your facilitator, muscle testing can also help determine sensitivities, deficiencies, allergies and emotional blockages.
Psych K
Psych K is a powerful healing modality aimed at rewiring the subconscious mind (where most of our patterns and cycles are hidden). It blends a mix of ancient mind body traditions, with modern neuroscience and muscle testing to identify and reprogram subconscious limiting beliefs, breaking unwanted habits and behaviours and improving emotional well-being.
Qi Gong
Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese practice that centers on the mind/body connection, combining intentional movements with breath and meditation. It is a wonderful practice for reducing stress, lowering anxiety and calming the nervous system, while increasing well being, immune function, balance, muscle strength and flexibility.
Radical Forgiveness
Radical Forgiveness is a beautiful modality (and way of life) that teaches you exactly why the things that are happening have been showing up in your life and how to break free of the same painful cycles, patterns and beliefs. Learning how the art of forgiveness and awareness are cornerstone tools needed in your healing journey can save many years and much frustration from your forward journey.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative healing where a facilitator acts as a channel to transfer energy through their palms to the recipient. This is a form of energy work designed to clear blockages, reduce stress and promote general healing and well being as well as balancing the body’s energetic pathways.
Sound/ Frequency Healing
Sound and frequency healing come in many forms and have been used all throughout history and ancient practices, but are becoming popular again through modern healing modalities. Some examples of sound and frequency healing can include the use of sound bowls/sound baths, gong and bells, solfeggio frequencies, chimes and tuning forks as well as external frequency equipment like the Rife Machine. Sound and frequency healing works by adjusting the HZ in your field through sound, frequency and vibration. There are optimal frequencies for health, well-being and healing and these are what are being amplified and attuned to in sound healing practices.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice akin in modern times, to a walking meditation. The practice is centred around qi (vital life force energy) and balancing opposing forces (yin and yang) by combining slow movements with deep breathing and mental focus.
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that unites the mind, body and spirit. There are several different types of yoga, but mostly all share the common elements of Asanas (postures) Pranayama (Breathwork) and meditation.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture- A form of Chinese alternative medicine, acupuncture is a needling procedure designed to balance the meridians or energetic pathways in the body and restore the flow of qi, or life force energy. It also stimulates sensory nerves, the central nervous system and your fascia, triggering the release of natural painkillers like endorphins.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractics is centred on manual manipulation of the spine mostly, with focus on diagnosing, preventing and treating disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Practitioners use their hands to apply force and controlled pressure to specific areas of the neck, spine and hips to create alignment, trusting that alignment of the body leads to natural healing.
Cold Therapy
Cold therapy- like cold showers and ice baths, can have many benefits, including the reduction of metabolic activity, muscle recovery, joint relief, mood enhancement, immune support, better sleep, reduction of inflammation and triggering the release of endorphins.
Kinesiology
Kinesiology is the study of movement- a complementary therapy that uses muscle testing and monitoring to determine physical and emotional imbalances in the body. Using a mix of physiology, biomechanics and anatomy, kinesiology specifically tests biofeedback and stress responses, attempting to identify, correct and relieve these blockages from the body.
Lomi Lomi Massage
Lomi Lomi is an ancient, traditional Hawaiian form of massage that uses long continuous strokes to release physical tensions and restore inner peace. Ancient Hawaiians viewed it as a holistic healing practice connected to both loving intentions (aloha) and spiritual energy. It can also help with somatic release, energetic blockages, emotional balance, deep relaxation and improved circulation and assistance to the lymphatic system.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy can be a wonderful form of somatic release. There are many types of massage available and depending what type of healing you are doing, can help determine the best type of massage therapy for you. Whether you are seeking calm and relaxation, physical healing, emotional release or spiritual alignment, there is a form of massage to suit every path.
Miri Miri/ Romi Romi
Miri Miri and Romi Romi are traditional Māori healing practices that are often, but not always paired together. Miri Miri focuses on energy and touch to converse with the clients energy field, treating the person holistically, looking after the tinana (body), hingero (mind) and wairua (spirit), aiming to clear stress, tension and emotional blockages from the body’s cellular memory. Romi Romi is often more intense and focuses on greater pressure in deeper tissues, and organs as well as fascia release through deep bodywork.
Reflexology
The entire body is connected. Reflexology uses this core teaching and applies pressure and stimuli to specific points on the feet, hands and ears, to promote healing in other areas of the body and its organs. Nervous system stimulation can calm the central nervous system and improve blood flow, lower stress and anxiety, manage pain and to improve general well being.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy- the therapeutic use of concentrated plant extracts and essential oils. These can be inhaled or applied to the skin for emotional, physical and psychological well being. Oils can trigger chemical signals that promote relaxation or ease stress, scent molecules can travel from the nose to the limbic system, which controls muscle and memory and each oil carries a specific vibration and frequency which can aid in your healing journey, particular if using high quality, intentional blends.
Herbal Remedies
Herbal Remedies- are health products made from plant or plant parts, such as roots, leaves and berries. They are used to prevent, treat and ease an array of medical conditions and symptoms. Please be aware that natural does not always mean safe and that many herbal remedies can still have negative side effects or unwanted reactions, including organ toxicity, if misused. Some medications are also heavily impacted or negated by certain herbs and some herbs can create dangerous interactions with certain medications.
Alternative Medical Systems
Ayurveda
Ayurveda- An ancient Indian traditional form of medicine that aims to balance mind, body and spirit, promoting health and longevity alongside. In Ayurveda, health relies on the balance of three vital energies (doshas) known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It focuses on root causes of symptoms and may include herbal medicine, diet and nutrition adjustments and cleansing and lifestyle adjustments, like yoga, meditation and detoxification.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy works on the premise that extreme dilutions of natural substances can trigger the body to heal itself. A substance that might cause specific symptoms in a healthy person can be used in a tiny dose to treat an unwell person. In homeopathy, the practitioner tailors the remedy to the unique circumstances of the client.
Naturopathy
Naturopathy uses natural remedies and lifestyle changes to support the body’s ability to heal itself. It uses the least invasive techniques possible and relies upon the healing power of nature.
